Ongpo Hoetjip (옹포횟집), Jeju Hallim Hyeopjae main branch, is a sashimi restaurant in Hallim-eup on Jeju’s northwest coast, a short hop from Hyeopjae and Geumneung beaches. It’s best known for raw mackerel (godeungeo-hoe), raw ttaksae shrimp, and combination sets that come with a spread of seafood sides. A lot of its trade is takeout: people staying near Hyeopjae pick up a packed set and eat it back at their rental. This guide explains the menu codes, the prices currently listed, the hours and Wednesday closing, parking, and the bus. Practical details come from the restaurant’s Naver Place listing, checked in October 2026.

What kind of restaurant is it?
It’s a casual hoetjip, a Korean raw-fish restaurant, with a dining room and a big takeout business. The restaurant’s Naver description says it has been running for more than ten years beside the Hyeopjae and Geumneung coast, and it lists its signature dishes as mackerel, ttaksae shrimp and yellowback sea bream sashimi, plus mulhoe (cold raw-fish soup). Naver also lists reservations, group seating, Wi-Fi and separate restrooms.
The house way to eat the mackerel, according to the restaurant, is wrapped: a sheet of dried laver, a little sushi rice, a slice of fish, and the restaurant’s own onion sauce on top, with white kimchi or makjang (a soybean dipping paste) if you like. The restaurant says it developed the onion sauce to tame the oily, fishy edge mackerel can have.
How to read the menu
The set names are syllable codes for the fish in them, which baffles a lot of first-timers:
- Gwang (광) = gwang-eo, olive flounder
- Go (고) = godeungeo, mackerel
- Ttak (딱) = ttaksae-u, a hard-shelled Jeju shrimp with sweet meat
- Hwang (황) = hwangdom, yellowback sea bream
- Dol (돌) = doldom, striped beakfish; Mun (문) = gumunjaengi, a Jeju name for a type of grouper
So Hwang-go-ttak is yellowback sea bream + mackerel + shrimp, and Go-ttak is mackerel + shrimp. Most combinations come as a set (세트), with seafood sides, or single (단품), the sashimi only. The menu board says set sides include conch, sea squirt, butter-grilled squid, abalone, deep-fried rockfish, saury gimbap and soy-marinated crab, and that the seafood changes with the season.
Menu and prices
The first list is as listed on the restaurant’s Naver Place menu, checked October 19, 2026. The longer list comes from menu board photos the restaurant posted on Naver (April 2025). Naver’s current prices match those photos, but treat them as a guide and check the menu when you order.

- Saury gimbap – ₩7,000; rice – ₩1,000
A separate board posted in November 2025 shows winter yellowtail (bangeo) combinations from ₩98,000 for a two-person set. Yellowtail is a winter fish, so expect that menu only in the colder months.
What to order
For two people trying Jeju sashimi for the first time, a two-person set with mackerel and shrimp (go-ttak or hwang-go-ttak, ₩94,000) covers the restaurant’s signatures and brings the seafood sides. If raw mackerel sounds like a stretch, the gwang-ttak (olive flounder + shrimp) set is milder and ₩6,000 cheaper. Solo travelers have more options here than at most sashimi places: the ₩17,000 haenyeo mulhoe or a ₩15,000 hoe-deopbap is a proper meal for one.
Opening hours
Naver Place lists Ongpo Hoetjip as open 12:00–22:00 every day except Wednesday, with last order at 21:00. Wednesday is the regular day off. One food directory shows a 10:00 opening on weekdays, so if you’re planning an early lunch, call first or check Naver Map on the day.
How to get there
The restaurant warns that some navigation apps still show another business’s old address for it. Search for the full name, 옹포횟집 제주한림협재본점, or enter the road address 10 Ongpo 2-gil, Hallim-eup rather than relying on autocomplete.
By car
Naver lists free on-site parking, including an accessible space. It’s in the Ongpo-ri/Hyeopjae-ri area just inland from the coast road, so it’s a short drive from Hyeopjae Beach or Hallim town.
By bus
Naver lists the nearest stop as Hyeopjae-ri (협재리), about a 7-minute walk (roughly 430 m), served by trunk bus 202 and local buses 784-1 and 784-2. The Ongpo-ri (옹포리) stops, 8–9 minutes away on foot, are served by the same routes. Check the live route in Naver Map or KakaoMap, since Jeju bus routes are revised from time to time.
Practical tips
- Wednesday is out. Plan around the regular closing day.
- Takeout: the restaurant says it packs sets carefully for eating back at your accommodation. Call ahead on the listed number so your order is ready when you arrive, and keep raw fish cool and eat it soon.
- Stew or no stew: the combination sets don’t include maeuntang (spicy fish stew). The 1 kg single-fish orders do.
- Payment: Naver lists no payment details. Carry a backup method in case a foreign card is declined.
What’s nearby
- Hyeopjae Beach: VisitKorea describes white sand, shallow water that runs into Geumneung Beach, and a view of Biyangdo Island, with especially good sunsets.
- Hallim Kalguksu: about 2 km away in a straight line by Hallim Port. It’s a cheap, early bomal noodle breakfast (opens 8 a.m., closed Wednesdays).
- Haenyeo Three Sisters: about 3 km away in a straight line, by Daesu Port. Go here if you want cooked whole hairtail rather than sashimi.
Hallim and Hyeopjae are closer to Jeju City and the airport than to Seogwipo. If you’re still choosing where to stay, see our guide to Jeju City vs. Seogwipo as a short food-trip base.
FAQ
What does “go-ttak” mean on the menu?
It’s short for godeungeo (mackerel) + ttaksae-u (Jeju shrimp). “Hwang” adds yellowback sea bream and “gwang” adds olive flounder.
How much is a sashimi set for two?
The two-person go-ttak and hwang-go-ttak sets are both ₩94,000 on Naver Place (October 2026). The menu board lists the flounder or sea bream + shrimp sets at ₩88,000.
What day is Ongpo Hoetjip closed?
Wednesday. On other days it’s open 12:00–22:00, with last order at 21:00 (Naver Place, October 2026).
Can I take the sashimi to go?
Yes. Naver lists takeout, and the restaurant describes itself as a sashimi takeout specialist. Order by phone ahead of time.
Is raw mackerel fishy?
It’s rich and oily, and how fishy it tastes comes down to freshness. The restaurant’s onion sauce is meant to cut through it. If you’re unsure, start with a set that also has flounder or sea bream.
